This morning I am reminded of the subtle
yet profound things said by the Holy Spirit
When John the Baptist announced Jesus
(probably just after His temptation in the desert)
he said "Behold the Lamb of God
who takes away the sin of the world" ref Jn 1:29, 36
Lamb of God......
Because I know the story
it doesn't seem out of place.
But to those who did not know...
The announcement of the Messiah
being the Lamb....
a lamb....
Did they wonder,
"What does that mean?"
"What's that all about?"
Did they see the reference to Passover?
A lamb, slain to protect the first born?
Did they Know this One
Sent from God
to redeem
to buy back
would do it with His own blood
As the Lamb's
blood on the doorposts
on the night before the deliverance
from slavery.....
That they might be 'Passed over'
so that they might be set free...
Lord,
You speak clearly...
Yet expectations
and
conditioned thoughts
cloud the 'obviousness' of your plan....
You came as a lamb
You come as Spirit
You will come as Conqueror...
and somewhere in there
I suspect
I have probably missed something
very significant.
Your Ways O Lord
are
Wondrous.
Glorious
Should be no Surprise...
and Yet....
Thank You Jesus
for being my
sacrifice.
The lamb.
