So good to be back from Camp Bob....
Such an amazing God time with 54 campers and a super crew of
caring staff.
The other day I was talking to a friend about the
40 years that Israel lived in the wilderness....
on manna.....
God supplied them what they needed
but they wanted more....
Meat to be precise....
Numbers 11 is the 'complaining' chapter
and one of the complaints is:
"We have NO meat!"
Not true!
As my friend and I were talking he asked me,
"Didn't they have sheep? Weren't they shepherds in Egypt?
Where did all their flocks go?....."
Of course they had meat!
Bulls and goats and lambs for the sacrifices as a minimum!....
In fact, near the end of the 40 years in the wilderness
the Reubenites and Gadites had such big flocks and herds
they asked Moses if they could settle
on the East side of the Jordan river
because the land had good pastures. ref Num 32:1-5
Hmmmm.....
Somehow I grew up thinking,
'poor people....
they only had manna to eat...... :( '
Go back to Chapter 11....
Notice when they were complaining for more meat
and God sent them meat....
each one gathered 10 homers....
How much?..
in redneck volume that is:
1 large pickup truck box FULL of Quail!
- 580 US gallons!
Each.
Each person.....
No refrigerators......
and
they already had lamb, goat and beef....
and
God wasn't happy with their attitude
I Want.
I am upset.
I don't have enough.
I.
I, I, Me....
Hmmmm.
Application?
What do I already have some of (actually enough of)
but don't think I have enough....?
Lord,
Heart check....
You DO give me
what I need
and even want....
and
Yet....
My heart so easily shifts to
I NEED more....
I WANT more....
Thank You for the reminder
That Every breath
Every swallow of food and drink
Every encouragement
Every word of love
is
enough.
Thank You.
I shift to...
....thankful.
Yes.
