I was mulling over Jesus' words about riches this morning.
"It is hard for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven."
as hard as a camel (animal) going through the eye of a (sewing) needle...
Now that's hard!
The disciples said, "Who can be saved then?"
Jesus' reply, 'Just Man -> Can't do it.
With God -> it's possible.'
ref Matt 19:21-26
I was thinking about that.
I live in a culture
that the 'fix' for most things
would be to Win the Lottery!
or get a big inheritance from Mom and Dad
or at the least get a job that pays lots and gives lots of free time...
But Jesus seems to indicate
that that runs counter to my entrance To
and involvement In
the Kingdom that is Eternal Life....
Hmmm...
He told the Rich young man to give it all away
to get treasure in Heaven...
Soo... Poverty is the answer?...
Hmmm....
A scripture comes to mind....
"To whom much has been given....
...much will be required." ref Lk 12:45-48
The context and thrust of that text is: knowledge and responsibility
but I think that CA$H might be included...
as Privilege
and Opportunity to do good....
More money
More responsibility to use it to leverage Kingdom fruit.
...including giving it away....
Lord,
This runs so counter to what my world teaches me
I know that You are my Lord
And I respect Your words about
Riches making my life actually much more difficult
re: the Kingdom
I know You are teaching me
But I also know this morning
You have reminded me
To be Careful
and guard my heart.
and listen carefully
To You.
Yes Lord.
:)
