Submit.... Huh?

This morning I was somewhat shocked at 
how far my society has shifted from Peter's call to
SUBMIT.     

Not a word used in a positive context much these days.    

He starts off reminding those enslaved 
to submit to HARSH masters 
as well as nice ones....   
ref 1Pet 2:18    

What?   

That's just wrong....   

But Peter's standard
His frame of reference is
Jesus' life on earth....

"When they hurled their insults at Him
(the creator and master of the universe)
He did not retaliate....
(though He had the Right to....)
When He suffered (at their hands)
He made no threats
Instead, He entrusted Himself
to HIM who judges justly. 1Pet 2:23

And then.

Peter applies that to
Marriage.....

Wives IN THE SAME WAY....
submit
to husbands
even if they don't deserve it
or haven't earned it....

Husbands IN THE SAME WAY
care for your wife
even if she isn't kind
even if she is
HARSH?
really?
ref 1Pet 3:1-7

Hmm...

Lord, this is a hard saying.
This doesn't 'fly' so well in my society
In fact it kinda feels wrong....

Hmm... I forgot
It IS wrong
Just as it was wrong for you to be
beaten
reviled
spit on
lied about
and
Killed.....

and You call me
to trust the same Father
who 'let that happen'....
but who judges rightly
and justly
and who KNOWS.

Wow,
This is a different paradigm
a different way of living
and this is a 'hard saying'

and yet
You have the words of Eternal Life.....
and I trust You
to be truth
in my world.

Yeah.
