Just got an email to activate a software program
and it reminded me
that reading scripture is only part of
the equation of hearing God's voice.
Intentionally setting aside time to read
Of course....
but I also need
a curious mind
and an asking prayer
and an open listening attitude
this presents fertile soil
for the Holy Spirit to speak
through words of Scripture...
I read and 'listen' at the same time.
"What are You saying here Lord?"
"Why does that thought or scripture POP up
or seem to be more significant today
than before?"
I usually write down the scripture and reference
and maybe the thought or question that 'pops up'
Then as I read other scriptures
I often see a correlation
or 'lining up' of a 'thought'...
I try to read an
Old Testament passage
New Testament passage
and a Psalm or Proverb.
I find that this 'mix' creates an interesting
cross 'web' of thoughts.
One thing that I have realized over the years is that;
even if I don't 'get anything' out of my time in scripture
I have woven truth threads into the 'fabric'...
- the thought patterns of my mind.
As I do that day by day they will begin to be a part of the 'fabric'
of my everyday - all day...
2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture
is God-breathed
and is useful for teaching,
rebuking,
correcting
and training in righteousness,
17 so that the man of God
may be thoroughly equipped
for every good work.
Lord,
Thank You that as I open Your Word
I hear from You - THE Word
Sometimes lots
Sometimes little.
Thank You for speaking
I want to Hear.
