This morning I was reading the story of David and Goliath...
1 Samuel 17 tells the story.
As I read, I thought about the older brothers perspective of David.
David was the youngest of 8 boys...
He looked after the sheep
and I suspect was excluded for years from the 'goings on' of the older boys.
and they never saw him 'grow up'....
Just David
the bratty, nosey kid of the family....
especially when he started spouting off about Goliath
What did he know about fighting real men?
Brassy, cocky, young and uninitiated about the realities of war
Just going to get himself killed
and make it more difficult for the rest of us as a result....
I could see that. I could feel that
until David said something as he ran towards Goliath
1 Sam 17:45 David said to the Philistine,
"You come against me with sword and spear and javelin,
but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty,
the God of the armies of Israel,
whom you have defied.
46 This day the LORD will hand you over to me,
and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head.
Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army
to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth,
and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.
47 All those gathered here will know
that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves;
for the battle is the LORD’s,
and he will give all of you into our hands."
They could be the cocky brassy words of an untried young warrior
except that all of his success is shifted to his God...
Complete and utter trust in His Heavenly Father...
Faith words
'Power of God' words
'God is on our side' words
There was no hint of 'I wonder if this is God's will'....
....full steam ahead.
O God,
I want a relationship with You
like that.
confident and sure
Knowing not only Your Strength and Favour
but Your Will and Desire.
You live within
You speak to me
You desire to impart Your Kingdom Life
So I take hold and walk into that
today.
O Yeah. :)
Watch out Goliath! :D
