I've been thinking about the 1st King of Israel's rise and fall. Saul - shy and humble at the beginning, proud and people pleasing at the end.
A point of departure was disobedience to God's instructions. 'To obey is better than sacrifice and to heed is better than the fat of rams.' see 1 Samuel 15
Pride, people pleasing, 'don't waste good things', 'I know a better way', 'it's not that big of a deal', 'it's just a little thing'. Each created a rational to not obey.
God, I want to obey. What is keeping me from doing that today?
