Strength and Courage Required

I just finished the Book of Joshua.
A command is repeated several times in the beginning;
'Be strong and courageous' 
One place it adds; 'Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.'  Joshua 1:9

So... if God is with me, I need to be courageous to carry out His work?
Would God lead me into something that could be terrifying?

Apparently so... and as a new leader of a whole nation Joshua was taken places that required FAITH in God, AND courage and strength.

No passivity there...

Yeah.
